Sunday nights

I always feel a vague sense of apprehension on Sunday nights. Something about the weekend ending fills me with a little sadness and thinking about a new week beginning leaves me with a little anxiety.

However, as part of my New Year's goals, I decided I want to read the Bible at least 3 days a week. Chandra and I are going to start a Bible study (as soon as I remember to order it), but until then I found a daily reading plan on BibleGateway.com.

Part of today's reading was this: "33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." -Matthew 6:33-34

I needed to be reminded of that. Worrying is pointless. I should instead focus on the things that matter.

I tried to do that during this morning's long run. I focused on a different family member each mile...thanking God for them, praying for them and thinking how I could make our relationship better. It really helped me enjoy the run and choose to see these important pieces of my life in a different way.

I also ran into my sister after about 3 miles. She stuck with me, slow pace and all, for the next four miles. It was wonderful to have company and some good conversation to carry me through the miles. I wish I'd thought to take a picture of us! We both had BondiBands over our ears and ponytails in braids...the rest of her outfit was a little more colorful than mine though :)

So instead of dread looking at this week, I'm going to enjoy a little family time tonight, do what I can to prepare for the week, and worry a little less.

  1. I love that idea on focusing on a different family member each mile. How wonderful to connect that way.

I hope you have a great week!

  2. I needed that verse today! I don't like when things are out of my control...but I need to be reminded that He is in control!!
